The Adjective

A Word used with a noun to describe or point out, the person, animal , place or thing with the noun names, or to tell the number or quantity, is called an Adjective.

 Adjective of Quality

Show the kind or quality of person or thing ; as,

= He is an honest man.

= The foolish old crow tried to sing.

 Adjective_of_Quantity

= I ate some rice.

= She showed much patience.

= You have no sense.

 Adjective_of_Number

= The hand has five fingers.

= Few cats like cold water.

= All men must die.

 Demonstrative_Adjective

Point out which person or thing is meant;as,

= This boy is stronger than Hamad.

= That boy is industrious.

= These mangoes are sour.
 Kinds of Adjectives

 Interrogative_Adjectives

What, Which and Whose, When they are used with nouns to ask questions, are called Interrogative Adjectives. ; as,

= What manners of man is he?

= Which way shall we go?

 Possessive_Adjectives

A possessive adjective is used with Nouns to shows possession ;as,

= My House
= Her Father
= My Property

Possessive Adjectives are also called possessive Pronoun.

 Formation_of_Adjectives

1) Many Adjectives are formed from Nouns.

= Boy.    Boyish
= Fool.   Foolish
= Play     Playful
= Hope.   Hopeful
= Sense   Senseless
= Gold     Golden
= Dirt.      Dirty

 Comparison_of_Adjectives

1) Rema's mango is sweet.
2) Hanan's mango is sweeter than Rema's.
3) Govind's mango is the sweetest of all.

We thus that adjectives change in form ( Sweet,Sweeter, Sweetest) to show comparison. They are called the three Degree of Comparison.

= The Adjective sweet is said to be in the Positive Degree.

= The Adjective Sweeter is said to be in the #Comparative Degree.

= The Adjective Sweetest Is said to be in the #Superlative Degree.

 ?The positive Degree of an adjective is the adjective in its simple form.
